On Monday, October 20th, The Knockturnal had the pleasure of attending the exclusive launch of female-founded Desolas Mezcal’s new Reposado held from 7–10 PM at the acclaimed ILIS in Greenpoint (150 Green St). Hosted inside one of NYC’s most talked-about new restaurants by visionary chef Mads Refslund, the evening blended taste, culture, and connection in the most refined way.
The Reposado Revolution
Desolas has already established itself as one of the most awarded mezcals on the market, but the debut of its Reposado marks a defining chapter in the brand’s journey.
This spirit is a radical innovation the first-ever Salmiana Agave mezcal from San Luis Potosí aged in ex-bourbon barrels.
The result? A beautifully balanced, smooth, and slightly caramel-kissed expression of mezcal that honors its agave roots while inviting newcomers into the fold. Guests enjoyed seasonal bites from the ILIS culinary team, paired with bespoke cocktails crafted with Desolas including an exclusive first pour of the Reposado in partnership with Astor Wines & Spirits.
A Beautiful Crowd & Beautiful Conversations
The crowd? Absolutely stunning in energy, style, and spirit.
It felt like everyone sipping Desolas belonged to a kind of “beautiful people club,” and I was glad to be in the mix.
Among the standout moments was meeting David Bettenhausen, a 27-year-old visionary and one-half of Mundial Partners think Bruce Wayne meets global brand architect. David shared details about an upcoming fashion-meets-football dinner in Milan this November, blending luxury, sport, and culture. Imagine a room filled with iconic footballers, fashion influencers, and creative powerhouses. That’s the world Desolas easily fits into.
As we spoke, David got word that a few more high-profile guests had been confirmed for his Milan activation. The conversation flowed effortlessly proof that true networking happens naturally when the vibe is right (and the mezcal is this good).
The Energy of Greenpoint
I half-jokingly suggested that the CEO of Desolas should run for mayor she seems to know everyone and is loved just as much as the drinks she creates.
One unforgettable highlight: witnessing a guest order 10 bottles of Desolas right there on the spot. That’s how strong the impression was. This wasn’t a typical Manhattan cocktail crowd these were true connoisseurs with refined taste.
And let’s talk setting: Brooklyn was the perfect backdrop. While Manhattan usually paints the night red, Greenpoint offered a more intimate kind of glow a sense of discovery, community, and elevation. The décor was elegantly minimal: soft candlelight, fresh florals, thoughtful bottle displays intentional, sophisticated, and warm.
More Than a Drink A Direction
Anyone can pour a drink, but few brands pour this kind of soul into an experience. Desolas has mastered the art of connection blending craft, conversation, and culture.
Nights like these remind us that our tastes, stories, and spirits are what truly bring us together. And if the direction Desolas is headed is any indication we’re all on the right path.
It’s nearly impossible to describe just how exquisite Desolas Mezcal tastes so do yourself (and your friends) a favor:
Visit their website, place an order for the holidays, and share the experience. Whether it’s Thanksgiving or Milan Fashion Week, Desolas belongs at your table.
Here’s to good mezcal, great people, and the elevated vibe we didn’t want to miss.
