BET is celebrating social media this weekend leading up to their first social media awards ceremony, with the opening of a pop-up temporary exhibition in New York City called Museum of Meme.
The exhibition which opened on Thursday February 8th with a party that was attended by music artist Bobby Valentino, Bridget Kelly and singer/actor Rotimi, displays over 25 exhibitions and original art pieces that reflect black culture and how the culture has been influenced by and influences various social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter.
The opening night party featured a live soundtrack by DJ Whooligan and drinks provided by Heineken, Glenfiddich, 1800 and Hennessy. Hashtags that launched certain social and cultural movements such as #TimesUp are celebrated at the exhibition which will be open to the public on February 9 & Saturday, February 10, 2018 – from 12:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
This year’s BET Social Awards will be hosted by comedian and actor Michael Blackson and executive produced by Mike Epps. The awards ceremony will air live from Tyler Perry Studios Ft McPherson on Sunday, February 11, 2018, at 10 PM ET/PT.
