Balu’s Music is a Nuanced Journey through Jiggy World R&B

Toronto Impresario Balu is a beatbox legend who has toured the world on the international beatbox circuit and has recently evolved to develop a sound that he calls “Diasporic R&B”. As you’ll hear on his latest tunes, Balu’s influences span from Little Jaffna to Little Jamaica, the cultural space where he seems to have crystallized his style.

His latest effort, “Voices in My Head” showcases his ability to tackle big-room hooks. Extremely dancy from the jump, there is no question where this track’s aspirations lie: the dancefloor. Balu is ultra-vulnerable, singing away about the complications of life as he weaves in and out of a super-catchy chorus. It only gets better when you bump his previous effort “Missing In Action“. He was recently featured on Spotify’s Explore CANADA Playlist. Take in the Ashley Scott-produced records below.
