Vampires, ’90s, Gigi Hadid….oh my!
The stunning Rodarte F/W ’20 show at St. Bartholomew’s Church wowed the fashion elite down the runway, thanks in part to the backstage artistry of masterful makeup artist James Kaliardos and hairstylist Odile Gilbert for ghd and TRESemmé.
Models were styled with a fantasy top knot by Gilbert and crowned with a flower mesh veil, topped off with TRESemmé Volume Thickening Spray and TRES TWO Extra Hold Non-Aerosol Hair Spray. “Based off the collection, we wanted the hair to look like a fairytale and very ethereal,” Gilbert said. “Like a young, cool girl who could be the wife of a vampire.”
Kaliardos used NARS cosmetics to enhance the Winona Ryder circa Francis Ford Coppola’s 1992 Bram Stroker’s Dracula aesthetic, applying light eyelash extensions and a clear nude complexion for an innocent dewy effect contrasting with a dark lip.
“We’re doing a very stark face–very graphic and very pure–but we want it to still look luminous with perfect skin,” Kaliardos said. “I think we worked out a way to do a very dark lip without making it look too theatrical. We wanted to concentrate on the lip really being the statement but still wearable.” Kaliardos cites screen star Marlene Dietrich as another beauty influence for the undead.
The looks were finished off with Morgan Taylor nails that alternated with a vamp (“Take The Lead” shade) and virgin (“New School Nude” and “Izzy Wizzy”) inspiration depending on outfits. The virgin shade though, with added flames by “Vixen in a Mask,” had the mystique of sharpened claws sinking into a berry blood.
Oh, the beautiful bite of a vampiress!
