Backstage Beauty Report: Runa Ray and L’ANZA

NYFW: We stopped by one of the last shows of NYFW to catch Runa Ray backstage with hair by Jorge Luis, working with L’anza Healing Haircare.

The Knockturnal: This is a complex hair look! (It features knotty deadlock-influenced hair with fabrics being incorporated into an undo style).

Jorge Luis: It is! It’s texture, texture. I created dreadlocks essentially. And I gave free range to my stylists to be creative so long as the hair was up. We incorporated some fabrics, I thought that would be interesting to have a detail detail.

The Knockturnal: How did you achieve it? Which products did you use?

Jorge Luis: We used the paste from L’anza, the texture spray for L’anza, finishing spray with L’anza as well.

The Knockturnal: How long does it takes to achieve the look?

Jorge Luis: Oh my god, this is complex. It took each model, like, an hour to do. Because you have to tease the hair, layer the product then flat-iron it.

The Knockturnal: And how does it work in context of the collection?

Jorge Luis: It works really well because [Runa Ray’s] clothes have a balance of structure and flow, so this is my second season working with her, so what I do is create something more organic rather than plain and non statement.

The Knockturnal: And what do you think of the clothes?

Jorge Luis: Yes, I love it! I’m a big fan. Yeah, we are on the same page and we communicate because she lives in India and I’m in New York so sometimes its hard, but we’re always on the same page!

Indeed, the hair was a stunning arrangement of order and organic style, achieved using L’ANZA products. The clothes were stunning, occasionally structured with striking use of materials and rare use of embroidery. There was a statement here, something mildly political, with one reading into the idea of no shoes being worn. The clothes felt natural and timeless in a very environmental way. As if they were of the earth.
