On Thursday (October 27th) New York City’s Power 105.1 returned to Brooklyn’s Barclays Center to host their annual Powerhouse concert which featured a roster of performers that included Ayo Jay, Kehlani, Young MA, Desiigner, Tory Lanez, Bryson Tiller, Fat Joe and Remy Ma, Wiz Khalifa, Usher and a special guest performance from Jeezy.
London born Nigerian artist Ayo Jay who opened the show with his hit “Your Number” spoke to The Knockturnal about performing at Powerhouse saying, “It’s a big thing. It’s like the biggest stage that I’ve ever been on. I performed here a couple months ago at the One Africa Music Fest and it was great. Right now this is the second time so it’s a big stage it’s Powerhouse. It doesn’t get bigger than this.” He also spoke to us about what he has in store for next year telling us, “I’m working on first EP, it’s supposed to drop first quarter next year February. It’s gonna be like seven tracks on it and the name is Coming to America, so you guys should look forward to that. I’m working with Vinylz and a couple of producers from Africa as well.”
Grammy nominated rapper turned Love and Hip Hop star Remy Ma revealed what the next single she will be releasing after hitting the stage with Fat Joe to perform their classic “Lean Back,” and their new hit “All the Way Up.” “The next song off the album is “Money Showers” with myself, Fat Joe and Ty Dolla Sign. We’re actually gonna shot the video in like another week, week and a half and the album Plata o Plomo should be here by the end of the year. We’re working really really hard to meet that deadline.” Remy said.
The Knockturnal also spoke to Young M.A. the Brooklyn born independent rapper who is still riding on the success of her single “Ooouuu”, about what advice she would give to independent artists who want to be successful in the music business without being signed to a major label which she said, “Always go with your decision. Don’t let a lot of people think for you. I mean if you feel like it’s right go for it, if you feel like it’s wrong don’t go for it and just stay consistent and keep hustling keep grinding, don’t stop, don’t get discouraged just keep it pushing and believe in God.”
