Asia Fashion Collection F/W 18 Show

This Saturday, Asia Fashion Collection held their debut FW 18 show at Spring Studios during NYFW. In partnership with Vantan Inc. and PARCO Co., LTD., 7 designers were able to feature their collections outside of Asia as part of the incubation project.

Hailing from Japan, Fumiko by Fumika Hayashi explored an “a gloomy, girly world between reality and fantasy” with casual streetwear inspired by feminine details and pastel color palette. Épi á la mode by Miho Tsusumi also showcased womenswear with a tomboy twist and AH by Aoi Wanaka & Hyown Lee took to nature and florals to invoke storytelling within each piece.

South Korean designer Daeun Lee took a less conservative approach to her label, VLEEDA, by taking inspiration from artwork to textile. Menswear label shen yao by Shen Yao Huang broke gender barriers with his androgynous take on proportions, ranging from high waisted trousers to delicate patterns.

Hong Kong designer Key Chow of KA WA KEY also took masculinity from its traditional gender confines to express a more soft, sensual identity with non-uniform proportions, and fellow Hong Kong label CHAN CHIT LO by Venus Lo took menswear on a rugged and handcrafted theme of “Hoarding – One man’s trash becomes another man’s treasure.”

On Friday night, we also stopped by the afterparty for Fashion Hong Kong at the High Line Hotel, celebrating three brands, Harrison Wong, a self-labeled contemporary line with understated elegance; Anveglosa by Annette Chan, a visionary leather tailor; and Yi Chan and Lary Cheung of Heaven Please. Guests enjoyed cocktails under the high ceilings of the expansive Refectory venue and had the opportunity to see models up close following the show earlier in the day.
