A night of cocktails and conservation.

It’s impossible to imagine a world without the greatest landmarks like Egypt’s Ancient Pyramids, Paris’s Notre-Dame, and the canals of Venice, Italy. Due to unforeseen natural disasters and climate change we’ve witnessed just how much damage can be done to a city overnight. If you’ve turned on the news or scrolled through your Facebook feed within the last month or so you’ve seen the recent coverage on the devastating floods taking place in Venice, Italy this past November.

Last night, the American Foundation of Savoy Orders and Save Venice hosted a cocktail reception at 10 Corso Como, in the South Street Seaport District of New York City to raise awareness of conservation efforts in Venice following the extreme floods. Cocktails were provided by Matteo Bolla of the family owned Italian winery Valdo Spumanti along with Macchu Pisco, Galliano, and Q Tonic. The guest of honor was none other than H.R.H Prince Emanuele Filiberto di Savoia, Prince of Venice.

Philanthropist Lizzie da Trindade-Asher, who leads The Young Friends Steering Committee of Save Venice, gave the opening remarks noting how vital the organization has been. With the joint efforts of the foundation and H.R.H Prince Emanuele they can continue to preserve the artistic heritage of Venice, Italy for the rest of the world.

In an emotional statement about his hometown H.R.H Prince Emanuele said this:

“This town really needs the support of people. This is just one example of what happened with the flooding in Venice. We can see how fragile this town is. We’re helping by restoring art pieces, artisans, shopkeepers who lost everything during the floods and found themselves with nothing.”

“Tonight we’re here to save Venice, to save Italy, and to save our future generation. This is art, this is love, and this is the magic of this wonderful town and this wonderful country.”
