German-born, Berlin-based designer Marcel Ostertag gave a colorful “thank you” to all of his muses through a floral rainbow collection on the last day of New York Fashion Week. Ostertag’s latest “Muse” collection acknowledged his creative sources in both womenswear and, for the first time, menswear with 59 looks.

A classic take on Spring/Summer, “Muse” was composed of pastel pinks and yellows, lavender purple, with bright orange and reds as well as rich blues and modern prints. With diverse pieces of womenswear (and models down the runway) including ruffled dresses, pantsuits, short sets, sweaters, and midi skirts, Ostertag focused on modernizing the feminine aesthetic with sequins, mesh, and embroidery.

The men’s 10-look capsule collection focused on cashmere and floral prints with a sporty edge. So, there were pink sequined jumpsuits, a matching blue mesh and floral duster coat and shorts set as well as a sunny yellow sweatshirt with matching pants.

Ostertag’s collection may have been the quintessential aesthetic for Spring/Summer, but it was one of the more interesting and wearable collections that were displayed during New York Fashion Week. Ostertag definitely knows how to make clothes as well as style them so that they appeal to a wide range of customers. If anything, Ostertag showed that designers can reside within the vicinity to traditional, sartorial themes yet produce pieces that are refreshing and vie for a spot in next season’s closet.
