A Night at Universal Pictures’ Screening of ‘The Bad Guys’

Universal Pictures hosted a private screening for ‘The Bad Guys’ Wednesday night at The Grove in Los Angeles.

The film from DreamWorks Animation and Universal Pictures tells the story of a group of bad guys — five anthropomorphic animals living in Los Angeles among humans — navigating their reputation as “bad guys.”

The animated action comedy stars Sam Rockwell as Mr. Wolf, the leader of the bad guys. The group of talented criminals also includes Mr. Snake, who is portrayed by Marc Maron. The bad guys are rounded out with Anthony Ramos lending his voice to the role of Mr. Piranha, Craig Robinson starring as Mr. Shark, and Awkwafina portraying Ms. Tarantula.

Outside of the bad guys, the star-studded cast also includes Richard Ayoade as Professor Marmalade — the paragon of kindness in town, Zazie Beetz as Diane Foxington — the newly appointed governor, Lilly Singh as Tiffany Fluffit — the local news reporter, and Alex Borstein as Misty Luggins — the chief of police.

Complete with an incredible soundtrack and stunning animation, the film takes audiences on the bad guys’ journey to decide if being a “bad guy” is truly the life for them. After a heist goes awry and Mr. Wolf inadvertently helps someone, he finds that he likes how being good feels, and takes up Professor Marmalade when he offers the bad guys a deal. If the bad guys are able to successfully take lessons in being good, they can be free and not charged for their previous crimes.

From there, the film surprises, excites, and delights as characters’ histories, true identities, and morals come to the surface. Based on the blockbuster Scholastic book series by Aaron Blabey, The Bad Guys is directed by Pierre Perifel in his feature debut.

The screening provided movie snacks and plenty of exciting merchandise from the film, including t-shirts, temporary tattoos, hats, and more.

The Bad Guys opens nationwide April 22.
