Spring has sprung early at Pier 59 for a beloved green space.
Last Friday, Hudson River Park hosted its 8th annual Playground Committee Luncheon. This event raises funds for the 550-acre recreational oasis stretching from Chambers Street to 59th Street. As this park isn’t city-owned, it relies on private donations and community support to maintain its much-needed greenery. It also supports hundreds of free public education and sustainability programs for families, the new Science Playground that opened in January, and more.
The theme, “Be Dazzle,” perfectly suited the dazzling and incredible people in attendance. Dylan Dreyer, co-host of NBC’s TODAY and author, served as this year’s host. Hoda Kotb, author and co-host of NBC’s TODAY, and Maria Dueñas Jacobs, CCO and co-founder of Super Smalls, were the guests of honor. The luncheon featured a live auction and paddle raise led by Harry Santa-Olalla. Additional guests included Ally Love, Bobbie Thomas, Lara Crystal (President, Super Smalls), and others.
The luncheon raised over $380,000 for Hudson River Park this year! These funds will support maintenance and free programs for the fifth playground located on Pier 97, opening this Spring.
Congratulations to the Playground Committee co-presidents, Wendy Amsterdam, Jenny Miller Dutton, and Jill Simpson, and the Luncheon co-chairs, Laura Krey, Hayan Kim Lee, Caroline Bliss Spencer, and Megan Stackhouse, for this spectacular turnout. We look forward to witnessing the continued growth and flourishing of Hudson River Park.
