The Newport Beach Film Festival (NBFF) returned for its milestone 25th year with a stunning lineup of 112 films from 19 countries.

Topping the list of honorees was the legendary Nicolas Cage, who was presented with the Icon Award. Cage’s prolific career, known for its diversity and fearless performances, was celebrated as he continues to evolve and surprise audiences with every role he takes on.
Chinese American actress and director Joan Chen, a trailblazer in both Hollywood and Asian cinema, was awarded the Career Achievement Award. Her pioneering work in front of and behind the camera continues to break barriers and pave the way for more inclusive storytelling.
The Maverick Award went to Colman Domingo, whose bold choices in both film and theater have made him a standout performer. From his role in Euphoria to Fear the Walking Dead, Domingo’s versatility and depth have cemented him as one of the most captivating actors of his generation.
Other notable honorees included Marianne Jean-Baptiste, who received the Artist of Distinction Award for her impactful body of work, and George McShane, honored with the Spotlight Award for his rising stardom and promising future in Hollywood.
Veteran actress June Squibb received the Lifetime Achievement Award, a tribute to her enduring presence and unforgettable performances in film over the decades.
Additionally, legendary songwriter Diane Warren was recognized with the Lifetime Achievement in Music Award for her unparalleled contributions to film soundtracks and music.
Sheryl Lee Ralph, another honoree for the Artist of Distinction Award, was praised for her powerful performances and her continued advocacy for diversity and representation within the entertainment industry.
Each year, Variety selects 10 up-and-coming actors who have shown immense promise in the industry, and this year’s class did not disappoint. The list included stars from a wide range of genres and backgrounds, each with projects that have left a lasting impression. Monica Barbaro, known for her role in A Complete Unknown, was one of the standout talents. Zoë Chao, who impressed in Nightbitch, brought a dynamic range to her performances, while Ryan Destiny gained acclaim for her role in The Fire Inside.
