Rain Didn’t Dampen the 2025 Jazz Age Lawn Party

It was a rainy day on Governor’s Island,  but showers didn’t drown out the 20th Anniversary Jazz Age Lawn Party.

While attendees had a tougher time setting up their blankets and picnics with the oncoming showers, the dance floor was still bopping. The music was excellent, and performers like Dariana Mullen, Curtis Holland, and Kurt Csolak were all clearly having a blast in spite of the weather. All the while, attendees dressed in peak 20s attire galavanted the grounds for swing dancing, food, and vintage shopping. A personal favorite activity was provided by The Great Gatsby Musical, known as “Great Gatsby Karaoke”, where attendees could step up and read passages from the original book to the public. I personally had fun reading the intro, while many others stepped up to read about the green light or Jay Gatsby’s eclectic closet.

The wine and cocktails were also delicious. The event showcased a wide variety of refreshing drinks. My personal favorites were the Stags’ Leap Winery sauvignon blanc and the French 75 mixed with Citadelle Gin. Taste of France also provided delicious pastries, and I also enjoyed the Taste of Greece food truck. I definitely felt taken care of while we huddled around tents and umbrellas during the rain, but everyone seemed to embrace the weather and not let it get in the way of the dancing.

Overall, the Jazz Age Lawn Party was a blast. While I look forward to when I can make my way back during a sunny day and enjoy a full picnic, seeing everyone in their vintage attire dancing despite the weather was refreshing and, frankly, affirming. It was truly a “singing in the rain” style event.

The next Jazz Age Lawn party will be on August 9–10. You can find ticket info here.
