10 Things You May Have Missed When Watching ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’

If you haven’t seen it yet, DO NOT READ THIS ARTICLE. MANY SPOILERS AHEAD! Go watch it and then comeback and find out what you may have missed!

1. Rey has felt the force’s influence on her life way before the events of the film

When Kylo Ren mentally tortures her and reads her thoughts, he reveals that she dreams of an island in ocean when she can’t sleep at night. We find out at the end of the film that Luke is on an island sort of in the middle of an ocean, very much like in her dreams. Sounds more like Luke was calling to her through the force.

2. Maz Kanata has Luke’s lightsaber

Well, you probably noticed this one, hard to miss it, but this simple thing raises so many questions. Who is Maz Kanata and how does she know Luke? Continuing on the notion that Luke is leading Rey to her, evident in her dreams of his location, it seems Luke is leaving a trail of bread crumbs for her to follow.

3. Rey is suspiciously good at flying and repairing things, not to mention Luke’s lightsaber calls to her.

Considering we never get to know her parents, there is a lot of room for speculation on the matter. Rey is really good at fixing things, even putting Han to shame when it comes to fixing his own ship. Can we think of anyone else great at fixing things? Hate to bring up prequels but Anakin was pretty awesome at that, having built R2-D2 and C-3po and what not. Also, Rey is a great pilot like Luke and Anakin, but we learned that could be from her abilities as a force sensitive. When you factor in Luke’s lightsaber calling to her, there’s a real case that Rey is the daughter of Han and Leia and Kylo Ren’s sister and they hid her once he went bad. Unless Luke was doing more than just looking for the original Jedi temple, this little hints might lead to something real.

4. Han Solo tried to be a good dad

I think we can safely assume he took parenting seriously. Why? He lost the Millennium Falcon. He is constantly saying how great the ship is, not to mention how much time he spends in or around it. He basically lived on the ship, how can he have lost it? He must’ve taken a lot of time off from conning everyone in the galaxy to raise his son.

5. Han knowingly helps Kylo Ren kill him

Han really, really loves his son, and sacrifices his life to show him love. When he grabs the light saber, he knows he’s positioning it for his death and not to kill himself. He knows fighting would only greaten his sons hate for him, so he sacrifices himself to show his son love.

6. The light side is seductive too

We’ve constantly seen Jedi fall from the light and go for the allure of the dark side, but for the first time we see a force sensitive, Kylo Ren, say they felt seduced by the light side. Either way, Kylo Ren is only getting more and more interesting.

7. The old man from the beginning

So many questions. Who is he and how does he come to find out, or more likely, get the location of Luke Skywalker? Too bad he dies so soon that we get no info.

8. Phasma is probably not dead

Finn and Han suggest they would kill her, but say they’ll throw her in the trash chute. Considering we don’t see her die and that trash compactors aren’t an exact death sentence (i.e Episode IV), this isn’t the last we’ve seen of this character. Plus she’s a pretty awesome actress with an awesome set of armor and they really didn’t utilize her enough.

9. Order was restored to the Republic. For a little while at least

Remember that thing called the Republic? You know, the thing that the Empire once was and they spent a while trying to preserve? Well we finally see it back up, at least for about the 15 seconds it’s on screen. At least we know the events of Episode VI returned everything back to normal. For a little while.

10. Rey is at the point where Luke was at the end of Episode V

No better way to cap off this list with one more observation about this awesome new character, Rey. She has pretty great lightsaber skills, can use the force, and has seen a possible future like Luke did while training with Yoda in Episode V. For those of you claiming this is basically a remake of Episode IV, you can’t be more wrong. Rey is running a very unique journey different from Luke and I for one can’t wait to see where it takes her.
