Snow Patrol frontman Johnny McDaid was honored at the 2016 BMI Awards for co-writing “Photograph” with Ed Sheeran.
We caught up with McDaid and his girlfriend actress Courteney Cox on the red carpet.
Courteney Cox: I feel great being here. I’m here to support Johnny who’s got an award tonight for pop song. He’s an amazing writer and he’s my love and I’m here as his partner.
What do you guys listen to in your spare time? Do you listen to other artists for inspiration as well?
Johnny McDaid: Yeah, of course. We listen to lots of music. We often have the radio on so we have a good line of the top 40.

What are some of your favorite songs? What is your jam?
Johnny McDaid: What’s our jam? That’s really tough. We had a great Daft Punk dance off the other night.
Courteney Cox: That was fun.
Johnny McDaid: That was fun.
Courteney Cox: We’re big fans of Foy Vance. He’s a friend …
Johnny McDaid: Incredible artist. Foy Vance. You should check him out.
Courteney Cox: Biffy Clyro.
Johnny McDaid: Yeah.
Courteney Cox: Kodaline.
Johnny McDaid: How can we not be fans of Ed’s? Ed Sheeran introduced us and he’s a huge part of …
Courteney Cox: And Taylor Swift.

Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift introduced you? How was that?
Courteney Cox: Ed Sheeran introduced us and Taylor came the same night that Johnny came over and that was it.

This night is honoring Taylor Swift. It’s the first time that they’re honoring an award with her name. What do you like the most about her music? Why do you think she’s so inspiring to so many people?
Courteney Cox: I think it’s because she tells the truth or she’s really personable. You feel like you know her. The same thing when you go to her concert. She talks … It’s almost like … it’s really helpful to teenagers. She talks to you as if she … I don’t know. She’s just very insightful … And real and I think she’s pretty amazing.

What is next for you guys?
Courteney Cox: He’s doing a Snow Patrol album right now.
Johnny McDaid: Yeah. New Snow Patrol record and Courteney has got a lot of things that she’s working on, too.
Courteney Cox: I’ve just been going back and forth to Europe. That’s all.
